2017: A Year In Review

All the plans that started as little ideas for 2017 have been ticked off our to-do lists and we now enjoy this time to reflect on another year full of exciting and rewarding experiences.

Plyroom has continued to grow and we are grateful to you, as our valued customer, for following our journey and supporting us over the past year.

We’d love to share with you some of our most meaningful moments from 2017…

April

Castello Bunk and Dream Cloud Loft Bed

In April we reimagined your favourites, the Castello Bunk Bed and Dream Cloud Loft Bed for greater flexibility, stability, usability and a more streamlined aesthetic. Featured in the likes of Fête/Life Magazine, our new Castello Bunk Bed and Dream Cloud Loft Bed are amongst our most sought-after designer kid’s furniture pieces

May

Collingwood Concept Store

May saw the launch of our Collingwood Concept Store in the industrial Magic Johnston workspace. Beautifully captured by Bianca Virtue, a month in this space allowed us to personally meet, be inspired by and share the Plyroom brand with new faces and old friends.

May

Shibui

Conceptualised in collaboration with Melbourne designer, Joel Wells, our Shibui collection was inspired by the Japanese philosophy of the same name, referring to an aesthetic of simple, subtle and unobtrusive beauty. Launched at the Collingwood concept store, our Shibui shelf was described by The Design Chaser as, ‘Timeless rather than trend based, the Shibui Collection encompasses a side table, open sideboard, room divider and other formations. Providing a beautiful shelving and storage solution for any room of the home, the versatility of the pieces also make them ideal for small living spaces.’

June

Den Fair

At our first year at Den Fair, our humble and organic olive-green stand sat alongside inconceivable constructions of steel, chrome and illuminated forms. Admittedly intimidated in such a context we were quickly warmed by the positive reception we received. The ability to see and feel our pieces in person had people falling in love with the Shibui shelving and our modern children’s furniture, captivated by the natural grain, structural integrity and considered details.

September

Italy and Latvia

Immersed in countryside Italy and post-Soviet streetscapes of Latvia, we spent two weeks in Europe on a work trip interspersed with moments with old friends, chestnut foraging and hiking in the Italian wilderness.

October

Flor Planter

The last release at Plyroom for 2017 was our Flor Planter. Inspired by the form of tree trunks and plant stems, it is a manifestation of outstanding craftsmanship, clean form and natural materiality. Enamoured with notion of welcoming greenery into our professional and personal spaces, our Flor planter is the ideal home for indoor plants, facilitating a rekindling our fundamental human connection with nature.
